People say “professional”

when what they really mean is “not having visual/behavioral markers of being poor, disabled, or culturally ‘other’”

which effectively shuts out of professional careers the very people who are most likely to be in dire need of income

I see your bullshit

I want to plaster this all over my life so I can remember it. Trying to be professional erased my identity and did so much damage. I’m still recovering.

That sounds really, really rough.  I’m glad I burned out before that became an issue.  (If it ever would have – once I was in job programs I was being tracked towards “unskilled” labor type stuff.)
