as small as a world and as large as alone

Took the rats out for a walk in the garden for the first time (since it was planted) today!  At first they were both extremely wary and just snuggled up in my shirt or hung out right next to our legs.  Not that I blame them, it’s a new and very *open* space.  It’s completely fenced in - even from the top, but I don’t expect them to know that.

After a while they came out and explored and crawled under the plants and dug in the soil.  And occasionally came back for cuddles.  Both of them were bruxing/chittering the whole time!  Oddly enough, it was River who was most into digging, and Mallow was more into climbing through the plants. *shrug* 

They were both very into the straw, both chewing on it and carrying whole bunches of it in their mouths to build a nest - before realizing “where are we going to build one?” (they are far away from their typical nest building areas) and dropping it somewhere.  Mallow ate a bit of tomato and seemed to like it!

Glad they liked it so much.  Will do it again. Looking forward to the next trip! ^_^

Will take my camera with next time.

(We let them in now because at this point the garden has grown so much, that even if they decide to nibble on something, it’s not like they can do any real damage.  The last time we let them explore was before we planted anything.)
