I think some neurotypical people have this idea that a hypothetical cure for autism being forced on people who don’t want it is some kind of a hypothetical. It’s not.

Literally every single piece of experimental “cure” testing has been done on children. Who, by definition, can’t consent. And yes, some of these children, as adults, will want a cure. But some won’t, and if a cure is successful, these children will have had a potentially dangerous medical treatment forced on them for goals they don’t share.

If a single one of these children was actually asked if they wanted to be cured and had their wishes taken into account if they said no, I’ll eat my hat.

And no, you can’t assume that people labeled “low functioning” (hisses) will want to be cured, because plenty of non-verbal people want to stay autistic.

And quite frankly, the wishes of their parents are irrelevant. A parents desire for a non disabled child is not the same as a child wanting to be non autistic.

Like, this really isn’t hypothetical, a cure being forced on people. It’s already happening and we don’t even know if it will work.

Non autistic scientists literally couldn’t give a shit about giving children risky drugs to further their own career. And why on earth is this being done on children who can’t consent instead of adults who want a cure?
