I used to occasionally get asked where I was from, based on my speech…by people who were from the same area.
And the few months of attempted accent “fixing” in 2nd grade sure as hell didn’t work that well.
I had the same problem growing up.
Everyone thought I was from a foreign country.
And people would make me say things just to listen to me ‘talk funny’.
