androidflowers:

‘focussing on details rather than the whole picture’ is a phrase thats used SO OFTEN esp in regards to autism and i still… i dont get what it means…

what are the small details?? whats the larger picture????????????????? what the fuck? i actually cant begin to understand how you’d put this into context. like irl context, rather than some abstract figure of speech

Also as far as actual physically looking at details rather than the big picture, it turns out to possibly be a false idea anyway.  At least when taken over autistic people as a whole.  Because it turns out that what autistic people seem to be able to do, is look at the big picture and and the details, both.  Rather than just one or the other.  And we can turn off the big picture to look at the details, but we can also see the big picture.

But in that case I’m talking about literal actual physical pictures that they tested autistic people on.  I remember hearing of this from Michelle Dawson, then reading about it, but I can’t remember what the actual studies were.

I actually do have trouble seeing entire pictures, but my visual perception is more messed up than most autistic people I know.

And all of this is probably unhelpful information because I’m talking about literal actual visual information, rather than whatever they mean metaphorically.
