Despite being raised Reform Jewish, with family members who are quite observant (i.e. not Reform) I’ve never really thought that the religious aspects of my upbringing had all that much impact on my thinking. We’re Reform, we’re fun, we make cookies and art projects and stuff. Theology, that’s not us. But I’ve actually realized that a certain mentality was instilled in me that was obviously religious, and that’s taking responsibility for your own shit. (Which I’m not always the best at, goodness knows, but at least I theoretically know that it’s important.) And I’ve come to have no patience for people who just have no recognition of this.
