There has seriously got to be a special place in hell…

…for parents who write a memoir, in the first person, from their nonverbal autistic child’s perspective.

Okay maybe I’m being too harsh, but this kind of thing, whether in books or webpages, really pisses me off.  It’s like it’s not enough all the other things they do, they have to put their words into our mouths.  They can’t just write about us from their own perspectives, they have to be us.  (The worst is when they write about “my mommy” – themselves – in an overly flattering light.  Arrrrgh.)

Like I have no problem with a parent writing about their autistic child.  Or even guessing what their autistic child might be thinking.  Guessing.  Openly guessing.  But not this.  Not putting words in their mouths.  Not even for fun.  It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
