This is how I take a drink of water.  It took some getting used to at first.  It didn’t feel the same as drinking water through my mouth.  (And I still sometimes drink ginger ale through my mouth, but it immediately drains into a drainage bag, so it doesn’t do me any good aside from psychologically.  Just like when I eat a candy bar and it goes straight to the drainage bag without getting digested at all.)
Anyway, these days, I actually find myself going for the big syringe when I get thirsty and filling it full of water and pumping as much water into my j-tube (intestinal feeding tube) as possible, and it feels really good.  My brain has finally made the connection between tube feeding and feeling thirsty, and it feels so so so so so so good to have a drink of water today, after being outside twice, sweating a lot, getting exhausted, walking around, etc.
Right now I think if I didn’t stop myself I’d just be sitting here pouring water into my intestines forever.  But intestines don’t stretch the way your stomach stretches.  So pouring that much water into them is asking for it to reflux back into my paralyzed stomach, or else do something equally bad and give me horrible cramping and indigestion.  But seriously, watttteeeeeeeerrrrrrrr is like the most amazing thing in the world right now.  Even the sound of the word.  WATERRRRR WATTTEEEEERRRRR WAATTTTTEEEERRRRRRRR it just sounds amazing and cool and refreshing and like I could drink it allll day long.
And the funny thing is, I don’t even drink it.  I don’t taste it.  I don’t feel it go down my throat or into my stomach.  It goes straight into my intestines, and I only feel it if it’s especially hot or cold.  But clearly it’s getting absorbed, because I associate putting water into my j-tube, with feeling refreshed and not thirsty anymore.
And that’s how I feel right now, like the amazing beauty of water is everywhere and it’s just water and it’s wonderful and I can’t even identify a sensation that goes with it, but I still feel sooo much better after drinking water through a tube.
Tuuuuuuuuuuube watttttteerrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  Watttttttteeerrrr in a tuuuuuuuuuube.  TUUUUUUUUUUUBES!  Yay tubes!
I love my feeding tube and everything about it.  Seriously.  Moments like this, I just love it more than anything.  And tube water, water in a tube, water water, tube tube, water tube, tube water, yay.
