Anonymous asked: is it echolalia when you have the urge to repeat things you say yourself (as opposed to things other people say) or when you have trouble separating words from facial expressions/tone (i.e., compulsively making facial expressions while thinking or always saying a certain thing a certain way)?

:

I am fairly certain that the second one is actually echopraxia (which is basically the same as echolalia except with movements). is it like how when I watch TV sometimes I’ll find myself unconsciously imitating characters’ facial expressions?

I’m not sure about the first one. that might be vocal stimming or I guess it could be a kind of echolalia?

I’m sorry I can’t be of more help! I’ll put this in the actuallyautistic tag and see if anyone else can.

It’s called palilalia when you’re repeating your own words over and over.
