This so much! If someone wants to gripe about something I post, I’d rather they do it on my post so I can see it and have the chance to respond, rather than talk about it without me knowing.Abso-fucking-lutely. I just don’t think it’s reasonable to expect to maintain complete control over a post on a platform that is entirely based around reblogging. It makes basically zero sense. It’s one thing to say “no reblogs” for posts which are personal or for some reason you don’t want widely circulated beyond your own followers. That makes sense. But once the reblog chain begins, you relinquish control. That’s how it works.
If you want a place where you can post without people reblogging you, it’s called a regular blog.
If you want a place to talk to your friends in private, it’s called an f-locked LJ, or a chatroom, or whatever.
But Tumblr most definitely is not either of those things.
I’m sure you remember the time that we got in trouble for fucking thread drift on a post that had been reblogged so many times we didn’t even know who the OP was? But the OP was so certain we knew not only who she was, but key information about her, that we were being off-topic in her thread just to hurt her or something.
