➸ Long live heresy
Someone on the #actuallyautistic tag seemed a little hesitant to post their opinion about something Sherlock-related, because it disagreed with something Julia wrote in Someone Who Moves Like You. And I want to say that the following post intends no disrespect to Julia at all, I’m just using…
I don’t think that Julia Bascom was actually saying that in that post. I think I agree with her.
But yes, that. Cosigned.
Yeah. For me, who said what, who meant what, was secondary to the idea that it’s heresy to contradict a Big Name Activist. Which is an idea that’s tiptoed around but rarely addressed. Especially the whole phenomenon of name recognition in the autistic community, which Joel Smith and I have been trying and failing to find ways to talk about since like… 2002. It’s amazing how long a post can gestate in your mind before it ever makes it out of you brain. 12 years, that post took. And that was 12 years of behind-the-scenes work, until the moment was perfect, and then suddenly I could write it, plain as day, where 12 years of inability to write it had been before.
