There are few things I hate more than other disabled people saying disabled people shouldn’t procreate.

It’s so. damn. common.

It’s how we are raised! If we’re presumed women, we’re raised to be strawwomen anti-motherhood feminists as a cover that gets applied to all women- but eugenicists under that when we push the question. Which I immediately pushed from childhood. Which many women went along with, including women like Amy Tan who are heroes to me. Bless Eartha Kitt for defying this. Men get raised to be straight-up unapologetic eugenicists.

Eartha Kitt’s daughter says the one thing she always knew in life is that her mother loved her.

The women who defy this conditioning are amazing heartfelt mothers.

I’m not against people choosing not to have children.

But don’t you dare choose that for other people.

And think, honestly think, about why you were told not to have kids.

Disabled people aren’t automatic bad parents.

When I was 14, I met a woman with seizures, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. She was mean to most people. But she treated her sons like they were angels on earth, and this was the first person I could see my own adult self in. I’m not mean to most people, but you know what I’m saying.

So no one could tell me shit after knowing her. She had love. I had hope.

My primary purpose on Tumblr, as on other websites before it, is to have a venting outlet I can’t have on places like FaceBook and, more importantly, to be to a lot of you (a kinder version of) what Betty Berry was to me.

I don’t want to make enemies. But you make an enemy out of me if you preach eugenics to me.
