Lack of gender?

nonepants:

Atheism isn’t a religion. So is being gender neutral, agender, or neutois not a gender? Or is it one because language is clumsy?

I’m wondering if being agender should be called one’s gender or if it’s a lack of gender.

Anyone, especially agender people, want to wade in on what they think or how they prefer to talk about the identity of agender/neutois/gender neutral?

I honestly think it depends on who you ask.

For me, genderlessness means I don’t have a gender.  It’s not there.  It’s absent.

But I’ve also heard people say that ‘agender' is their gender, sort of a neuter gender?  And while I don’t claim to understand it, I don’t understand gender that well anyway, so I just take their word for it.  Because that kind of seems like what you do when faced with a part of someone’s identity that you don’t understand but that is important to them: You assume there’s something there, even if you don’t understand it.
