Gastroparesis and other motility issues aren’t really taken seriously by the government or medical field. As a result it is difficult for people with these conditions to get the care and support they need… spending years facing endless denials for treatments to help manage (not actually cure) their conditions. 

Through the communities I’ve met people who are down to 80lbs, unable to hold food down, and their insurance companies won’t pay for them to get a feeding tube or a pace maker for their stomach. It’s insanity. And when people take their problems to their congressperson they’re told it’s not on the radar.

Without focus on treatment rather than management this problem isn’t ever going to get better and right now the only option is management.

I might end up one of those people starving and it terrifies me to think that I might not be able to tap into the disability program I’ve paid into because my condition isn’t taken seriously. I’ve already had the short term disability insurance company label my condition as something that can’t possibly make me sick all the time and have been denied coverage as a result.
