honestly though?

As someone who spent most of my late adolescence and early adulthood wrestling with depression, the fact that this prissy little gits who expel so much hot air about “trigger warnings” and “inclusivity” and “sensitivity” and “mental health awareness” and “privilege” and whatever end up immediately slamming anyone who dissents down with the EXACT PHRASES that make up the core of depressive self-talk really REALLY bugs me. That was a run-on sentence and I don’t care. This is important and revealing. They are narcissistic brats with a nasty totalitarian streak. They don’t care about “including” anyone or being “sensitive” to anyone. They just like to stroke their own egos and pump up their own outrage.

Good grief, I have had to fight so, so hard against “you are a bad person who should feel bad and you are bad at things and you should drink bleach and stop living.” So hard, for so long. It became an integral part of my inner monologue that took, I believe quite literally, a miracle from God to evict. What kind of viciousness festers in someone’s soul to make them think this is how they get to talk to other human beings?

It’s always seemed somewhat ironic to me?

because people will tag like a post where they say something like “I just wanted to die” or has the word “suicide” in it even if it’s just an abstract discussion but no one EVER tags “if you ever have done ___ you are a horrible unforgivable person who should hate themselves” sort of stuff

Because while vague talk about depression and suicide doesn’t bother me I CAN be triggered by things that are descriptive. Like the last time I was full blown triggered was a visual novel that had a first person view of a character about to kill themselves and going through the “the world would be better off without me” thought cycle.

I would think in general, even if you do need every instance of suicide tagged, the descriptions would still be way worse but for some reason that is the stuff no one tags?

idk it bothers me because I have a lot of triggers but I can’t really blacklist them because of stuff like this. Most of the posts tagged #suicide on my dash are usually friends who need someone to talk to anyway and I don’t want to block those.

This is one reason that I’ve never made any promises about trigger warnings.

Most of my triggers are things that people think are good things to do. So they do them, and they’d never trigger warn for them in a million years, because either:

1. They intend to hurt people with it, so why warn?

2. They have no clue the effect they’re having on other people, so how could they warn?

And in either case it’s horrible.

A lot of my triggers also include “good advice” given to people with psychiatric problems, too. Like always take your meds, always listen to your doctors even when you think they’re wrong, etc.
