Anonymous asked: I think your post was really important, but I wanted to mention that 90% of the time I see people comparing oppressions on here (and what I and most people I know mean when we say "don't do it" though perhaps we should be more clear) it's to dismiss one in importance to the other or imply that one is more accepted. One I see a lot is "I wish people cared about disability rights as much as they cared about gay rights" when as a disabled bisexual woman I feel that's really dismissive of my exps.

The times I was referring to were more when people say “Don’t assume that your experiences as a gay person teach you anything about what it’s like to be disabled.  In fact, don’t even try to follow that line of thought.  Just stick to your own oppression and don’t try to relate it to oppressions you don’t experience, or you could end up drawing parallels that aren’t real.”  And I understand the dangers there, but I still think the dangers of not even trying are worse.

What you’re talking about is something I’ve seen, but not what I was referring to.
