Amazon wish list.
So now that I have a legal name that I don’t mind people seeing, I set up a bunch of Amazon wish lists. I first set one up when I needed a fast way for my brother to buy me an air conditioner. But now I have a bunch of different ones, ranging from completely frivolous stuff, to necessary medical equipment that I can’t always afford.
Nobody should feel obligated to get me a single thing from any of these lists. I only have them out there in case anyone wants to use them. Because people do ask me sometimes, “What do you want for [birthday/holiday/etc.]?” And I never remember off the top of my head. But now I have this huge list of stuff, more than I’ll ever need to remember.
One of the biggest lists is of all the books I’m behind on getting for my already-enormous collection of books by autistic authors. I think my collection may already be one of the larger ones out there, with some rare editions of stuff. But there have been so many books coming out by autistic people it’s hard to keep up. It’s especially hard when people do Kindle-only editions, because I prefer to collect print editions.
I’ve got a list for various household necessities like printers’ ink. Another one for medical equipment like drainage bags (has to be a very specific one, and I literally can’t afford to buy them as fast as they break). Another for musical instrument stuff. Another for miscellaneous. An entire wishlist for gum (not so frivolous when you’re tube fed and on steroids that increase your appetite, it’s still very hard not to eat myself sick even with the gum). I’m really putting everything out there possible, ranging from very cheap to very expensive.
And if one person ever wants to get one thing from it for me, that’s wonderful. And if nobody ever wants to get anything from it for me, that’s also wonderful. It’s just out there in case anyone does. The last thing I want anyone to feel is pressure.
Obviously my mom already found my wishlist, because the hand-cranked egg beaters were the first thing I put onto it, to test it before I added the air conditioner. So I know it works – the air conditioner and the egg beaters got here safe and sound. And it’s set up in a way where if you buy something, I notice it’s gone (it will either disappear off the list or reduce in number if I wanted more than one). That way nobody will end up accidentally duplicating orders. I don’t get notice of who sent what until it gets to me.
Anyway, I have a page with links to my wish lists here, and then my main wish list page on Amazon is here, and I think on that second one, all the other wish lists should be visible down the left-hand side, but I’m not sure. I will try to keep my tumblr page with the wishlists updated to show all of my current ones, but if I don’t, you can probably find them from the Amazon page. And you can also find me on Amazon by searching the name Amelia Baggs. So between all that, hopefully if you want to find it, you can find it.
Anyway, I still feel kind of weird just putting this stuff out there and saying “Hey, if you ever want to buy me things, these are the sorts of things I might want.” But understand there’s no strings attached, I won’t think more or less of you for using it or not using it, etc. It’s strictly an only if you want to thing. And enough people have actually asked me things about what I’d want, that I thought it was a good idea. And I already have an eggbeater stimtoy and an amazing air conditioner to prove it was a good idea!
