I’m not disabled so my opinion may be irrelevant, but the way I see it, reattributing disabled meanings to words that have actually lost them (the r-word didn’t) only makes disabled people targets for more slurs than they already have to suffer.

I hadn’t thought of that, but that actually makes sense.  Also, some words that haven’t fully lost them, but also don’t fully have them anymore, there’s a lot of in-between words, and people don’t want to acknowledge that, because that would be messy and inconvenient.  Or something.
