I know on my part the insistence on trying AAC young is because I’ve met too many people who default to “well, they are too id for it” who either gave up when it wasn’t instant or never gave it a try rather than just knowing it’s a possibility.

It’s not the suggestion of AAC that’s the problem.  It’s this weird self-rightreous thing people do where the moment someone says their kid isn’t communicating, someone basically says “If you gave them AAC there’d be no problem” with an incredibly strong judgmental tone to it.

  1. nicocoer said: I have a thing I want to write about ppl (staff and parents) making assumptions about non speaking and non AAC using folks I’ve met but I need to figure out if I’m sufficiently anonymizing ppl for it. (Broader id/dd settings not just asd)
