I just went to the hospital to get an EMG (electromyogram) in my forehead.  I had no expectations because previous EMGs in other parts of my body have been negative.  But this EMG was abnormal, my muscles were firing asynchronously.  My neurologist says it’s very probable that I have myasthenia gravis or inherited myasthenia, and he’s going to really have to go back and figure out what medications I should be on.  He thinks even that some of my response to steroids may not just be because of adrenal insufficiency, they could also be because I also have myasthenia, which responds to steroids as well.  So it could be we’re treating two diseases at the same time.  But he says it’s very likely that whatever this is, it’s a neuromuscular junction disease, same as what my mother has.  They don’t quite know whether my mom’s neuromuscular junction disease is myasthenia or just something related either, but whatever we have is probably the same thing.  My neurologist seems to think this is serious because he wants to see me in the next week or two, and he’s never wanted an appointment that fast before.
