Anonymous asked: I don't think "DFAB privilege" should be a thing because those acronyms are used on cis people too so it implies ALL DFAB people have privilege over ALL DMAB people, meaning cismen can use it against everyone else. And considering the current political climate of restricting options for health care for DFAB people that makes me REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE. Being a transman or NB DFAB is privileged over being a transwomen but having a vagina is a separate thing people are oppressed for.

Yeah I’m uncomfortable with AFAB privilege for that and other reasons, and so are some other people who’ve contacted me privately.  Some of the reasons are really hard to articulate, though, like I don’t have the language, and I’m afraid, lacking the language, that I’ll say something I didn’t mean, by accident.  But I think the concept of AFAB privilege is too broad and too easily misused, I can say that much.  And trans-AFAB privilege is a mouthful as if AFAB privilege wasn’t already.  (AFAB is one of those acronyms that makes my eyes cross mentally, but I can sort of use it, sometimes.  I have an easier time saying ‘raised female’ and other more natural-sounding words.)  Anyway… I have serious reservations about AFAB privilege for reasons you’ve said and others.  It’s just hard to know how to say it.  Maybe 'benefits from transmisogyny’ really is the best way.

  2. dusty-soul said: - because it implies things about how the person the word is applied to feels about their being AFAB. It’s a linguistic concept I can’t really wrap my mind around, but I’ve been assured that it’s there. I’m still not 100% satisfied though.
