Social skills: noticing when repetition is communication
So there’s this dynamic:
Autistic person: The door is open!
Other person: I *know* that. It’s hot in here.
Autistic person: The door is open!
Other person: I already explained to you that it’s hot in here!

Very good advice. I don’t have a lot of experience with verbal (at any level) autistic people. A coworker’s son was saying something similar to me and I didn’t understand. Next time I see him I’ll keep this in mind.

There’s a version of this which is also true of nonspeaking people.
If someone does the same thing over and over in an interaction with you, it’s likely that they intend it as communication and that you’re not understanding what they mean.
