Anonymous asked: Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our son moved from being hyperlexic to a more sensory focused outward expression at a young age. Obviously there were reasons behind this change, but blaming ABA does not help us. We did stop it when we realized how toxic it was. Reading your words about what you experience as well as sense gave me an insight I find valuable. Perhaps your cautionary tales may help us navigate our way going forward to aid his independence. Thank you again.

I’m glad that things can help.  Sometimes these sorts of changes happen for a reason.  In my case, I think that my “cognitive brain” went into overdrive due to a lot of different factors, and that eventually my “sensory brain” (which was dominant) came out and said “ENOUGH ALREADY! You can’t do this forever! I’m taking over.”  Or something along those lines.  It was a very painful time for me, because I thought I was losing everything about myself that mattered.  But in the end I think it was for the best.
