Is what is generally called stimming always rythmic, like at a steady pace?

Some kinds are, and those may be what’s most readily identified as stimming by a lot of people.  But other kinds aren’t.  Some are more kind of… staccato and random.  And some aren’t even as much about movement as they are about sensory exploration, like waving things in front of your eyes or staring at ceiling fans.  (This is why the word stimming is kind of useless in a lot of ways.)
