I wish my oldest would chill about vir grades. And chill about being more like me than like vir father.
“But Mom, I *WISH* I were like you!”
“I got a C in my first college class, though. Psychology. For standing up for what I believed in. I was 16 and still in high school, like you were.”
“That’s exactly it. I wish I could sacrifice grades for principles.”
“I grew up told straight A’s were all my worth. I hated it. I wanted the world to see caring for others was what defined me most, not my grades. The C was a victory. I passed despite taking a stand, and I forced people to see me differently. Of course, they just didn’t know how to process that, so they said I didn’t try. And after the brain damage, they said I was a r****d. But in a way, I’m grateful for the brain damage. It did force people to alter their perspectives, and it didn’t prevent me from having a good life by my thirties.”
“You’re braver than me.”
“I don’t know why. I’ve got your back.”
“Savvy has a 4.0.”
“Your cousin also has an angry mob upset with her over offending them for funsies.”
“We do know things she doesn’t.”
“Exactly. I’m sorry you’re scared. You will have to get braver to be a good psychologist, though.”
“I don’t know if I can.”
“You can. Think of defending your dear old mother and you can.”
