If I’m in a particularly ferocious mood I kind of think that some Animorphs fans on Tumblr is why we can’t have nice things.

I mean, here we have a series that actually has progressive themes, without a doubt, and a fairly diverse cast, yet instead of actually enjoying it some people seem to enjoy just going around in endless more-progressive-than-thou pissing contests. Including nonsense interpretations like “it’s a white savior story from Ax’s perspective” and goodness knows what else.

Plus with the added “bonus” of gentiles being ignorant on Jewish issues. Because we all know that a character isn’t Jewish unless it’s mentioned all of the time, or they’re described in stereotypical ways, or use Yiddish phrases constantly, or something. I have to appreciate the particularly hilarious subset of this ignorance that is non-Jews trying to interpret halakha. Yeah, it’s not like we’ve been arguing about this stuff for thousands of years or anything. Clearly you’re an expert because you did a unit on Judaism in your World Religions class in high school.
