When Billy Broke His Head...and Other Tales of Wonder - Movies & TV on Google Play

I can’t believe that this is available on Google Play for sale or rental, but it is.  So I’m putting the link up there.

It’s a good look at the mainstream phys-dis disability rights movement.

Warning that it’s very white even though it didn’t have to be.  There’s lots of people of color present in many of the scenes (especially ADAPT), but somehow they never get interviewed.  Also warning that it’s very centered on physical disability and people occasionally make remarks that make it clear they’re differentiating themselves from cognitively disabled people.  And that’s despite the fact that the main guy in this film has a cognitive disability as well as a physical one, but he’s kind of treated by others in the movement as purely physically disabled throughout the film.

It’s seriously worth watching despite its flaws.  Seriously worth watching.

It claims to be closed captioned and subtitled.  I hope it is.  My VHS copy claims the same thing and it isn’t.  So until I see this version, I won’t know if it is or not.
