I really hate the concept of “internalized x”.

It’s a way to dehumanize people you disagree with.

Like, antifeminist women *actually disagree with me*. They are people. With opinions. That are theirs. Not the patriarchy’s. 

I don’t mind it when applying it to myself, but I dislike it when it’s used to silence people.  But it’s a real thing.

Yeah that thing.  I remember reading a really good article about it on the 3rd wwwave site.  (I’m not a feminist, let alone a 3rd wave feminist, but I find all kinds of feminist and womanist writings useful.)

Here’s a quote:

“I’m really worried – I think I might be lesbian.”“Oh, you have Internalized Homophobia.”

“No, I don’t have a physical problem with it. I’m worried about maybe losing my job, what will my parents say – ”“Yes, but there are all symptoms of Internalized Homophobia.”

“I’m not afraid of it, though. I like the idea. But I’ve never seen any examples around me. What’s my life going to be like?”“You’ll know once you get over your Internalized Homophobia. Look, it says right here on my 3x5 index card: Internalized Homophobia.”

That’s part of their concept of “Index Card Feminism” that reminds me somewhat of my later concept of Mental  Widgets.
