I have never read any of these books, but am very curious.

I can’t download the free ones because the hospital blocks those sites, but I’ve been downloading them to my Kindle and paying the $5 each, because my Kindle has been the only way I can read without making my headache worse while I’ve been in the hospital.  I’ve made it through two and a half books by now and I’m really enjoying it.  I wish I’d had this series growing up.  So far my favorite characters are Tobias and Cassie, but obviously I haven’t gotten far into the series.
