I am really proud of my staff person.

She starts medical school on Monday.

She’s worked her ass off to get this far.

She’s going to have to work harder than she’s ever worked in her life to get further.

She’s got confidence sometimes to the point of arrogance. She’s smart. She’s ambitious. And I totally want her to do it.

Part of it is that I want to see an ambitious woman succeed where a lot of men fail. And I want to see ambition in a woman, because women aren’t allowed to be ambitious, or arrogant for that matter.

I told her to keep her ambition and arrogance for as long as they help her through this. Because I think they will. Overconfidence can be a good thing in a situation where the actual situation is pretty disturbingly difficult.

She totally seems like a Slytherin to me and I love everything about that. She’s not evil, she’s just ambitious and smart and reserved (can come across as cold to some people) and slightly arrogant. I love seeing Slytherins who aren’t evil.

And I want her to become an excellent doctor.

I want to see her following the real doctors around the hospital like a duckling, like I keep seeing whenever I’m hospitalized.

I want to see her succeed, I want to see her learn things about medicine and about herself, I really, really want to see her do this well.

Yesterday was her last day with me, she’s only going to sub from now on, she doesn’t have time for a regular job and she figured the two hours she spends on me a week could be better spent recuperating from med school hell. Which I agree with totally.

But we’ll miss each other. We always do.

And I just so much want to see her succeed because she seems to have all the right components in place that if she really tries, she could, and that would be wonderful. But I know that no med student has any preparation for what they’re about to head into, in reality, and I just hope she keeps on pushing through it until the end.
