gutcolour:

i lose followers every time i say i Dont Hate Otherkin which is fuckin wild because like… i have a psychotic disorder! how do you expect me to muster hatred for people on the basis of them believing things other people think are delusional. people pull the “can’t they just stop being weird, everyone would treat them fine if they just stopped being weird” shit all the time and like, ok, clearly youve never been considered pathologically, involuntarily Weird

Yes thank you thank you THAT.

I’m not psychotic, but I’ve been long-term delirious (including a kind that for a couple weeks resembled schizophrenia very closely), and I’ve been misdiagnosed as psychotic (loooong story), and I can’t get behind Otherkin hate at all.

Oh and I once considered myself Otherkin.  In my case, I believe it to have been a fantasy world I was trying to escape into.  You want the long story?  Really?  Read my post, Life Is Not A Dream.  But it’s long.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  It deals not only with the fantasy world stuff, but with the fact that I don’t think psychiatry has a classification system for the experiences I had.  I honestly don’t think they have a word for what I went through, so they would call it psychotic or dissociative or any number of other things but they don’t really have a word for “a kid who really wants life to be a dream and will do anything, literally anything, to try to turn life into a dream”.

But I don’t judge other people on the basis of my own experiences, I don’t assume that their Otherkin experience is the same as mine.  I don’t care that they are Otherkin.  I don’t give a shit.  I don’t see why people give a shit.  I don’t think it’s a good idea to give a shit that someone else has an experience in their head that is different than your own.  Because that’s what it is.  Otherkin, like plurality, is about how you experience yourself, in your own head.  It’s not something that can be proven or disproven, and it shouldn’t have to be.  It’s just how people experience themselves, and if you have a problem with that, you should be looking hard at yourself, not at them.

Yes, I know there are Otherkin who say and do things that are obnoxious.  The same can be said for any other group of people.  And a good deal of the obnoxious things Otherkin are prone to saying these days were engineered by trolls who are now very happy when you react to them negatively.  So if you hate on Otherkin, you’re making trolls happy, I hope you’re proud of yourselves.
