I used to be less powerful than I am. For a few concrete examples, I used to be poor and I used to be a teenage girl.

There is this incredibly frustrating dynamic where I’ll say I’m angry on behalf of a group that gets trampled over, and if I used to belong to the group, someone will say, “You weren’t angry about it when you were [in that group]”, I’ll say I was but conserved my energy for safety and survival, and they’ll say I’m making things up.

I get frustrated in different ways now that I know they’re rarely arguing in good faith, but just trying to derail and shut people down. The really frustrating thing is how many other people will go along with it.

Yes the thing when people don’t argue in good faith bothers me more than anything.

Because I need good faith presumed just in order to communicate anything at all.  Without good faith, I have nothing.
