I don’t know why, but changing my name on facebook from my birth name to Jae and changing my gender and pronouns just lifed so much off of me

and wow

it’s so interesting that something that’s seemingly so small and simple can take such a large weight off of you

I found that changing my pronouns (sie/hir) alone – even though not everyone I know is able to follow that, and I’m okay with that – made me feel enormously better, and I didn’t even realize what a weight I was carrying with that.  Like I’d known I preferred those pronouns (and I have some others sort of in order of preference), but I didn’t realize how much of a shift it would make for me just to acknowledge that.  (I’m genderless.)
