Okay, I’m lost.  What is it?

Neurodiversity activism arose from neurodivergent people wanting to be recognized as valid human beings, it had nothing to do with scanning technologies or coming from the top (scientists) downwards like that, at all.  Mind you, I still have trouble wrapping my head around the word ‘neurodiversity’ in many of these contexts, but I’m dead certain the above is not the way it happened.  Especially because I was there for most of this.

How would a very large group of people who tend to be poor all have the means and the ability to go and get brain scans and why would we only form a community based on one medical procedure, and only AFTERWARDS? That is so silly. The things we talk about are life experiences and coping, how can anyone think it’s about brain scans?

That’s what I don’t get.  Well… all of it, I don’t get.  Why would a bunch of people doing brain scans suddenly want to champion our rights just because our brains looked different from each other?  Moreover, most of the time our brains don’t even look different enough that you can diagnose based off a brain scan alone.  So … yeah.
