➸ Cecilie Harris, the girl that speaks boy language

Boys by Girls has become something of a cult, it’s a photographic documentation, part fashion and part portraiture, of the modern man. In a celebration of virility and vulnerability, founder Cecilie Harris is passionately snapping her subjects in a candid and unique way. Let’s hear it for the boys by girls!

I went to her website, and it was interesting, but… so many white faces, so few obvious PoC faces, in an area that I know is way more diverse than that.  :-/

Also I read the interview and wonder if she realizes that the reason women aren’t as comfortable being themselves in front of the camera, is that as a female model you're trained to pose and pose and pose, you’re not trained to be authentic.  Authenticity can even lose you money and work.  She talks about how much the guys don’t feel the need to pose, and how that attracted her to photographing men.  But she doesn’t talk about how this doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

So I love the concept, but those two things made me uncomfortable.
