like yeah, depression is real and important, but you can hit every single flag on a depression screening without having depression

and if depression is the only thing a doctor is looking for, stuff can get real bad real fast

likewise migraines. migraines are real, but not everything is a migraine

“Not everything is a migraine.”  Please tell one of my neurologists this.  Every symptom I have, he blames on migraines.  Like things that cannot possibly have any connection to a migraine, he will still blame on migraines.  And he doesn’t even do it well.

Like he told me that I probably have gastroparesis because of migraines, because the two are linked.  I did some research and found out that migraines cause a temporary mimicking of gastroparesis that lasts only the duration of the migraine.  That’s a far cry from constant gastroparesis caused by probable nerve damage that requires a feeding tube.

But to him if there’s any link between gastroparesis and a migraine, however slim then my gastroparesis is just another migraine symptom.  Ditto for things that are actually related to hypermobility, myasthenia gravis, and adrenal insufficiency.  I’d love to see him explain away adrenal insufficiency as a migraine, same with my abnormal EMG.  But he’d find a way, I’m sure.  And he had actually told me he was certain I didn’t have myasthenia or anything related to it, he couldn’t tell me why he was certain but he was certain.  Now the EMG comes back… he was wrong.

The thing about him is he's too certain about too many things.  Including that everything is a migraine.  I now have a competent general neurologist, and he’s not certain about anything.  He leaves things as open as possible.  He comes up with a huge range of possibilities, and then he methodically goes down the list and tests in every possible way for each possibility until he’s satisfied whether I have it or not.  That’s how neurology should be done, I’ve just had one of those neurologists for years where if all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail.

Sorry I know this is all a tangent, but there really are people who think everything is a migraine, and I’m unforunately the patient of one of them.
