1201alarm asked: (1/2) The staff and client photo made me realize why I have such a strong reaction against attitudes like this from NTs toward autistics, even though I'm new to my diagnosis. It's because it's the exact same attitude that the religious denomination I was raised in has toward anyone "unsaved". I've seen so many pictures almost exactly like this where it's a missionary with one of their targets instead of a staff and client.
(2/2) They have the same way of relating to everyone they don’t see as being on their level primarily through pity, and the same attitude of “you can’t possibly know what you want or how you feel, and I know what you need better than you do,” and this is an attitude I’ve been getting from certain people for most of my life, ever since they could tell that the indoctrination wasn’t taking in the way they wanted it to.
Wow that’s a really interesting way of looking at it.  I hadn’t thought of it before but I can really see the comparison.
