“Because every new day could be my last, I have developed a desire to make the most of each and every minute.”

—

Stephen Hawking

Yes, yes, I know people try to turn this into an ~inspirational quote~ or something, especially given who said it.  But when you’ve faced death enough, it’s real.  When every day you could aspirate and this aspiration pneumonia could be the one that does you in, you do start thinking like this and it is extremely real.  It’s not inspiration porn.  It’s reality for a lot of people in precarious health.  And honestly I wish more people were aware how close death comes to them every day, because maybe then they’d stop taking life for granted.

My father had cancer sneak up on him, really bad cancer.  And now he’s telling my brother things like, “If there’s things you want to do, do them now, because you never know when something will come up and you won’t have any time left.”
