Stop passing the unperson ball

Forms of passing the unperson ball that really need to stop:

  • Autistics who can speak saying they’re high functioning and therefore shouldn’t have been eugenically aborted, unlike broken ~low functioning~ people
  • People with autism who can’t speak saying they’re just stuck in uncooperative bodies but they don’t have cognitive problems relating to people, unlike those soulless aspies
  • Autistics going out of their way to emphasize that they don’t have a mental illness
  • People with physical disabilities going out of their way to emphasize that they don’t have cognitive or intellectual disabilities
  • any number of other forms

Just don’t do it. Seriously. We’re all people.

I hate this too… dehumanisation is never acceptable, no matter how severe somebody’s disability is!

Or how severe it *isn’t*.

Like, this isn’t ok either:

  • “I’m disabled; you’re just lazy.”
  • “Stop taking resources away from people who ~really~ need them”
  • “It’s appropriative to use ASL/AAC/mobility equipment if you can walk or speak at all”

When we are busy passing that ball, it’s time we could better spend learning how to work in coalition.
