Anonymous asked: Is stimming only touching inanimate objects? Or do some people stim by touching other people? Because I can see how that would make people uncomfortable. Being touched I mean.

It can! I could only imagine that they would have to know each other.

Some people do stim in ways that involve touching other people.

But that is a thing where it’s important to check if it’s OK with the other person.

That can get really complicated when the person doing the stimming is a child you’re taking care of.

I used to really, really irritate a good friend of mine.

I’d stim on her forehead wrinkles.

And she got the wrinkles when she was annoyed.

So I’d start physically playing with them with my fingers.

And she’d get annoyed and that would make more wrinkles.

So I’d get excited and stim on them more.

And it went on, and on, and on.

But she had amazing wrinkles.  Like if she raised her eyebrows, her entire forehead just erupted in side to side wrinkles that were beautiful and fun to touch.

But I did have to eventually learn that I was annoying her and shouldn’t do that without permission.

I wish more people were willing to admit that this is a real social boundaries problem that a lot of autistic people really have (without being maliciously creepy).

Yes seriously.  I had to learn this the hard way.  I thought that because I was autistic, it was okay to behave in this way.  I was wrong.
