Creature of the Wood (1996ish)
A creature of the Wood am I
Moss dangles
From my arms and hands
And I creep through the Wood at night
Past the trees and fallen leaves
Which I collect for my bed
That lies in the middle of a grove of trees
And if you passed it
You would not see it
For I am forever in disguise
With leafy hair and barklike skin
And if you moved close to me
I would freeze
So you will never see me
And I will go about my way
A creature of the Wood am I
[I don’t like the poem so much as I like this as a costume idea. I want to make myself this costume one day. I was reminded of it when I saw a Japanese woman who made herself into a very different sort of woodland creature in a costume, and now I want to make myself a costume that does something like in this poem.]
