arbitraryalicat asked: I would just like you to know that every time, more than ten years since I first read it and countless rereads on, every damn time without fail I tear up over Fred. Every. Damn. Time. If I need a good cry, there is only one book to which I can turn without fail. That first and most important thing being said, I'd also like to ask you something. Over the course of nine books so far, we've seen the universe saved, the world saved four times, etc. - in a couple of years. Is that normal for wizards?

dduane:

Re the tearing up: It happens to me too (though not as often and normally without warning). And I’d say you have a lot of other company on this, to judge by the mailbag.

Meanwhile, re: all the stuff Nita and Kit have been through: it does seem statistically unusual on the face of it, doesn’t it? …Though the whole point of being a young wizard is that you’re able to handle this kind of stress. I get a general sense that things quiet down for most wizards later on.

I always wind up in floods of tears over Ed. Though terrifying, Ed is completely without malice, and in his strange way...
