this is a real country song that played at work today

I forget there are people who don’t have to put up with this

i live in south-east USA (not from this region, though) and yeah.  you hear this in restaurants and stores…
i even like country, but not this kind…
i like the story-songs (not sure what that’s called in musical terminology) or songs about ideas, like Iris deMent “the night i learned how not to pray” or “let the mystery be” would be perfect examples.  actually like half of Iris deMent’s stuff…  Johnny Cash’s songs that have a story or big idea to them (“city of new orleans”, “man in black”) … and anything new that’s along the same storytelling lines.

Kathy Mattea has two albums out you might like – one is “Coal” and the other is “Calling Me Home”.  I especially like “Calling Me Home” – a lot of the songs are about grief or loss, which is what I’m going through right now, but they’re also amazingly beautiful, I think it’s her best album.    "Coal" is pretty good too, just not quite in the same league.  I tend to put those two together on a playlist and hit “random”.
