Discworld

I really need to read/watch the Discworld stuff.

Discworld is a lot more important than people give it credit.

Discworld (specifically Small Gods and a few others) is what helped me rescue my mind from religion… without losing a belief in something beyond that.

I think not having read the canon may be seriously skewing your viewpoint here.

In the Discworld, the Hogfather and the Tooth Fairy have a literal physical existence because of human belief. Human belief is how gods are created.

“You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become?”

Death isn’t saying that justice and mercy are fantasies to demean them. He’s saying it to exalt them. They are creations of humanity, and they are thereby amazing.

It might also be helpful to know something about the Auditors of Reality, whom Death opposes, but I might be too sleepy to go into that part. I just know I wanted to say this the first time I saw you say the thing on that other post, and I wrote a response and then deleted it, and I didn’t want to let the moment pass me by twice.

I’m actually really glad to hear this explanation, because otherwise it looked like cynicism passing for wisdom and was irritating me every time I saw it.
