These exotic sapphires display a different color as a function of the ambient light conditions. Most color change sapphires belong to one of two groups depending on their color change; the green to red (alexandrite type), and the blue to purple (color change) kind. The Songea stones will be green in daylight and red under incandescent light while the other sapphires are blue in daylight and violet or purple under incandescent light.
