Hopefully it’s not weird in a bad way
For me as a white person to imagine canon-white literary characters as non-white. Not for creepy “exotic fetishy” reasons but because it makes their stories really interesting in certain ways. Hermione read as black would be REALLY cool, IMO.
Also, tangent but I am persistently annoyed at how like…in a lot of popular franchises/fictional universes, you see more nonwhite “supporting characters” but it’s like everyone is still too scared not to have a Main Character that isn’t blatantly or at least ambiguously white.
For some reason I always read Hermione as Jewish, specifically because her physical and mental description resembled a half-Jewish friend of mine so much that everyone tells her “I imagined Hermione as you.” But imagining her as black would be interesting too.
