What to do when your spiritual belief system actively encourages rational thought…

…and anons pop up to tell you that spirituality is fundamentally irrational (and probably mean something totally different by spirituality than you do).  Laugh? Cry?

For me, learning rational thought has been one of the most important spiritual lessons I have had to learn.  That relying on sensing alone is not balanced, that it leaves me vulnerable, that it leads me further away from the truth.  Not because sensing is less truthful than rationality, but because either of them taken alone by itself has pitfalls that you can’t see.  So I have spent a lot of effort learning to think rationally, and to think post-rationally (which is different from pre-rationally, which is what people mean when they talk about irrational thought).

Oh well.  Can’t expect people to understand when it’s not new age or Christianity or something they’ve actually heard of.  (I can pretty much guarantee they haven’t heard of my religion, as it has no name and one human member.)

But how to even begin when someone is totally shocked and surprised that being highly sensing sometimes involves seeing sensory things about people in your mind’s eye, when you’ve been talking about things like that for years, constantly?  How is it so weird to see (in your head, not with your eyes) a glow that corresponds to actual traits about a person, when people see colored letters and give numbers personalities?  How is that less rational than anything else a person sees in their head?

And how are they so shocked that I have a religion or spiritual beliefs when I’ve been talking about that religion and spiritual beliefs an awful lot lately, more than I ever have before, asking people questions about theirs, comparing notes, answering questions about mine.

IDK it’s just a very confusing and out-of-left-field response.
