I belong to a denomination of Christianity that really nurtures critical reading and dissent. People can’t get their heads around it. Always stunned that someone as “rational” as they think I am is religious.

Not surprised at the responses you get. :-/  Religion doesn’t have to be irrational.  And the things people think have to be ‘proved’ about religion, often seem to be the child’s version of religion.  Not the mature adult version of religion which is far different from “There’s an old man in the sky watching me all the time” or something.  But people think if they can prove away the old man in the sky then they’ve proved away the whole thing.
