There is no experience quite like a Dave Hingsburger self-advocacy workshop…

…where he gets people to roleplay bullies saying nasty things to developmentally disabled people.

Then he gets the entire room to shout “I’m okay, you’re mean!” over and over again, as loud as we can, until it completely drowns out the bullies.

He’s right – ignoring bullies doesn’t work.  Substituting actual reality (I’m okay, there’s nothing wrong with me, the bullies are the ones who are assholes) for the messages that the bullies are trying to send, is the only thing that actually works.
