➸ There is no experience quite like a Dave Hingsburger self-advocacy workshop...
…where he gets people to roleplay bullies saying nasty things to developmentally disabled people.
Then he gets the entire room to shout “I’m okay, you’re mean!” over and over again, as loud as we can, until it completely drowns out the bullies.
He’s right — ignoring bullies doesn’t work….
I really want to go to one of those. But don’t know how to get access. Mostly seems to be directed at people who receive services?
Yeah… what you’d want is to find a self-advocacy conference that he was going to, and you would pay to go to the conference, and then you’d go to his sessions. You could check with local DD agencies about local self-advocacy conferences that he might be appearing at – not everyone at the conference is from the agencies, and they might have fliers and registration materials. And you might be able to ask them to inform you when a conference is going to take place in the future. Then find out if Hingsburger is going to be there or not. Etc.
